\"Halloween\" is a two-part episode, consisting of the fourth and fifth episodes of the first season of the television series American Horror Story. The first part aired on October 26, 2011, and the second on November 2, 2011. Part 1 was written by James Wong and Part 2 was written by Tim Minear; both were directed by David Semel. Part 1 is rated TV-MA (LSV) and Part 2 is rated TV-MA (LV).
In this two-part episode, the Harmons are visited by the former owners of the house and are given advice on Halloween decorating while Tate (Evan Peters) is harassed by bloody teens while on a date with Violet (Taissa Farmiga). Kate Mara and Zachary Quinto are credited as special guest stars for their roles as Hayden McClaine, the student Ben was having an affair with; and Chad Warwick, one of the former owners of the house.
\"Halloween (Part 1)\" received an 86% approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes, based on 7 reviews,[3] and \"Halloween (Part 2)\" received an 88% approval rating, based on 8 reviews.[4] IGN's Matt Fowler gave the first part an overall score of 8, describing the episode as a \"fairly unsettling romp\", adding that the death of Adelaide was unexpected and that Constance's reaction to her daughter's death was \"wrenching\".[5] Emily VanDerWerff from The A.V. Club gave the first part a C+ grade.[6] She awarded the second part of the episode a B grade.[7]
\"Halloween\" is the fifth episode of the second season of the American comedy television series The Office, and the show's eleventh episode overall. It was written by executive producer and showrunner Greg Daniels and was directed by Paul Feig. The episode first aired on NBC in the United States on October 18, 2005. Guest stars in this episode included Devon Abner, Hugh Dane, George Gaus, Annabelle Kopack, Ava Nisbet and Alec Zbornak.
The series depicts the everyday lives of office employees in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. In this episode, the employees at Dunder Mifflin celebrate Halloween at the office. Michael Scott (Steve Carell) struggles with making the decision of whom to fire. Meanwhile, Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) and Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) post Dwight Schrute's (Rainn Wilson) resume on the internet.
\"Halloween\" is the third episode written by the series developer, executive producer, and show runner Greg Daniels. The episode was directed by Paul Feig, his second credit after \"Office Olympics\".[2][3] This episode is the only episode to date to have a quote to play over the Deedle-Dee Productions title card in the closing credits.[2] The quote features Dwight Schrute exclaiming \"Quiet, you!\"[2]
Daniels came up with the idea of an episode centered on an employee getting fired, but wanted to focus on the perspective of a boss having to deal with the dilemma of letting an employee go.[4] Since Daniels could not fire a series regular due to their contracts, he narrowed down the decision to either Creed or Devon, who at the time were both background characters.[5] Daniels did not initially know which character would ultimately be fired but decided on Devon once discovering that the actor, Devon Abner, had an upcoming theatre contract that conflicted with the series' production.[5]
During the pre-production for the episode, the cast and crew realized that the Halloween concept would allow the various cast members to wear costumes, rather than their \"usual, realistically plain suits\".[6] B. J. Novak called the dress-up experience \"fun\", noting that \"seeing the most serious of our plotlines play out alongside such silly and bizarre visuals was, I think, one of the most inspired ideas of the episode's writer, Greg Daniels.\"[6] The idea for Pam to be dressed as a cat was inspired by several unused stories, created by Gene Stupnitsky, in which \"Pam Beesley must disguise herself as a cat\".[6] The plot lines were vetoed by the show's writers, but Stupnitsky successfully petitioned to allow Pam to wear a cat costume.[6]
\"Halloween\" marks the last appearance of Devon in an episode until the series finale, seven seasons later. Although Devon was only a background character, he is mentioned during \"The Dundies\",[7] seen in the background of \"The Fire\",[8] and is seen in a deleted scene during \"Diversity Day\".[9] Devon is later seen in a deleted scene on \"Valentine's Day\", when Michael passes by a homeless Devon in New York. Devon then chases Michael, presumably still angry over the events of \"Halloween\".[10] Guest stars in this episode included Devon Abner, Hugh Dane, George Gaus, Annabelle Kopack, Ava Nisbet and Alec Zbornak.[11] Lisa Malone was uncredited in her speaking role as Jan's assistant, Sherry.[4]
The episode received mostly positive reviews from television critics. Michael Sciannamea of TV Squad gave the episode a relatively positive review and noted that he \"could certainly relate to [the] episode.\" Sciannamea also said that \"great moment\" in the episode was when \"Michael tells Creed, who is dressed as a vampire, that he can spread his wings and fly to wherever he wants.\"[16] \"Miss Alli\" of Television Without Pity rated \"Halloween\" a B+.[12] Entertainment Weekly named Michael Scott's line, \"I just hope that you and I can remain friends,\" one of \"TV's funniest lines\" for the week ending October 24, 2005.[17]
Between Cam, Mitch, and Lily and Alex and Luke, we get a little bit of non-holiday-related commiserating over what-could-have-beens. These moments are fine, but ultimately forgettable against the rest of the episode.
Gossip Girl episode five is streaming on HBO Max in the US, HBO GO where available in Asia and Binge in Australia, with new episodes premiering every Thursday. The show will come to BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
Halloween has finally arrived in Millwood on Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. After numerous horror film references made by Tabby (Chandler Kinney) and horrifying encounters with the infamous A, the liars reunite for a fundraising costume party. Little do they know that tensions will build between them and other guests, eventually leading to another gruesome death. This episode, titled \"The Night He Came Home,\" shows a Halloween taking place in both the past and the present. Beginning with the holiday prior to Angela's (Gabriella Pizzolo) death, we see the teen outcast trying to pull a prank in an attempt to join the popular squad, formed by the liars' mothers during their youth. As Angela throws a bag filled with dog poop at a house, the girls leave her behind to once again take all the blame for following their bad advice.
Back in the present, the liars continue to talk about their mothers' hidden secrets and how they could be connected to A. After Noa (Maia Reficco) was chased to a rooftop in the previous episode, she questioned A about the intentions behind hunting her and her friends down. A says that they want to \"punish the guilty,\" and amongst their targets is Noa's mom. From this situation, it becomes clear that the reason why the liars are all receiving anonymous messages and witnessing tragic deaths closer to home is because people in their lives are considered bullies. Given the amount of unanswered questions about Angela and her connection with the mothers, Imogen (Bailee Madison) doesn't want to sell Davie's (Carly Pope) house just yet. In the hopes of paying for the mortgage, the girls decide to throw a Halloween party there and charge an entry fee.
Meanwhile, Mouse's (Malia Pyles) mysterious background story starts to come to light when she's revealed to be doing a video call with a man named Steve (Alexander Chaplin), whom she has been in touch with for a long time. They decide to meet in person to trick or treat before the party. Steve allows Mouse to dress up, as long as she isn't scary, because Roberta (a missing girl that could be his daughter) didn't like scary things. Although there isn't much revealed in this episode about Mouse and Steve's dynamic, we could only assume that it is linked to the childhood trauma that she talked about with Ash (Jordan Gonzalez) before the prom in Episode 2.
As previously addressed in Episode 4, Faran (Zaria Simone) suspects that Karen (Mallory Bechtel) is still alive and pretending to be Kelly. She even convinces her dance partner to massage Kelly's foot just to make sure that she didn't have a scar from that razor blade incident with Karen in Episode 1. Henry (Ben Cook) confirms that there is indeed a scar on her foot, which gives Faran an additional reason to presume that Kelly and Karen swapped places at the prom. Yet, the more she begins to investigate the matter, the more things go south for her later in the episode.
When the Halloween party begins, Imogen is dressed up as Rosemary from Rosemary's Baby to welcome everyone at the door. Noa, Faran, and Tabby show up, but Mouse only gets there later that night after spending time alongside Steve, trick or treating and consoling him. Although she seems to be trying to comfort him because his daughter Roberta is missing, perhaps it's possible that Mouse was kidnapped in the past and therefore can sympathize with Steve's personal sorrow. At the party, things start to get tense when Faran sees Kelly making out with Greg, Karen's boyfriend. That's enough to make her believe that Kelly is actually Karen, since Kelly wouldn't betray her sister in that fashion. Faran's confrontation of Kelly ultimately causes her to lose the lead in the school's Black Swan production at the end of the episode.
